HydraFacial-Style Hydrating Facial in Seoul
A HydraFacial is a branded hydradermabrasion facial: a machine uses gentle suction to cleanse, exfoliate and clear pores, then infuses hydrating serums, leaving skin smoother and brighter for a short time. Hommage Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul does not list the branded device; instead, Dr. Hwang Seonhwa assesses your skin and recommends comparable hydrating treatments such as LDM or Coreg Cell-Fit.
Quick answer
A HydraFacial is a branded hydradermabrasion facial that uses suction and liquid serums to cleanse, exfoliate, clear pores and hydrate the skin surface in 30–60 minutes, with no downtime and a glow that lasts several days to about a week. Hommage Women's Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul does not list the branded device; instead Dr. Hwang Seonhwa assesses your skin and recommends comparable hydrating treatments such as LDM, cryo soothing or Coreg Cell-Fit.
Key takeaways
- Hydradermabrasion works only on the outermost layer of skin. It is maintenance, not a treatment for melasma, scars, wrinkles or sagging.
- The effect fades as skin renews, so hydrating facials are usually repeated every 2–4 weeks if you want to keep it.
- Published evidence is limited: mostly small, short studies, several linked to the device maker.
- Active acne, rosacea or eczema should be diagnosed and treated first; suction and acids can irritate a flare.

A hydrating facial may suit you if you have
- Dull, dehydrated or tight-feeling skin, especially in Seoul's dry winter
- Mild congestion such as blackheads or rough texture
- An event coming up and want a refresh with minimal downtime
- Ongoing laser or lifting treatments and want gentle maintenance in between
Wait or choose another option if you have
- An active cold sore, open wounds or sunburn on the face
- Painful inflamed acne, a rosacea flare or eczema that has not been diagnosed and treated
- Taken isotretinoin recently, or had a peel or laser in the past week
- An allergy to salicylic acid or aspirin, since many facial serums contain it
What is a HydraFacial?
HydraFacial is the brand name of a hydradermabrasion system. A handheld tip with a spiral design moves across the skin while suction lifts away dead skin cells and loosens the contents of pores, and the same tip delivers liquid serums at the same time. The generic name for this kind of treatment is a hydradermabrasion or “aqua peel” facial.
A typical session has three stages: cleansing with mild exfoliation, a gentle acid solution (often glycolic and salicylic acid) followed by vacuum extraction, and finally hydrating serums such as hyaluronic acid, antioxidants or peptides. It works only on the outermost layer of the skin. That is different from microdermabrasion or a diamond peel , which polish the surface with crystals or an abrasive tip instead of fluid.
What can a hydrating facial do, and what can it not do?
A hydradermabrasion facial makes skin look smoother, clearer and more hydrated straight away, and it can make blackheads and pores look less noticeable for a while. It is a maintenance treatment, so the effect fades as the skin renews itself.
It does not treat deeper problems. Melasma, sun spots, acne scars, deep wrinkles and sagging sit below the surface and need medical treatments such as melasma treatment , lasers, lifting devices or skin boosters . Persistent redness, flushing, itching or flaking can be signs of rosacea, eczema or contact dermatitis, which need a diagnosis first. A facial may make some of these conditions worse if they are flaring.
What happens during a hydradermabrasion facial?
A session usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, and you can return to your day afterward. No numbing cream or injection is needed.
- Cleanse and exfoliate: the tip glides over the skin with a cleansing solution to remove surface dead cells.
- Gentle peel and extraction: a mild acid solution softens pore contents, then suction draws out blackheads and oil. This step can feel like a light pinch on the nose and chin.
- Hydrate: serums are pushed into the skin surface while the tip passes over it.
- Finish: some clinics add LED light, cooling or a mask, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen.
How long does a HydraFacial last?
The fresh, plump look usually lasts several days to about a week. Because the outer skin layer renews roughly once a month in young adults, and more slowly with age, facials are often repeated every two to four weeks if you want to keep the effect.
Most people have no downtime. Mild pinkness can last a few hours. To keep your skin comfortable, use sunscreen, skip retinoids and exfoliating acids for about two days, avoid saunas and intense workouts that day, and keep makeup light until the next morning if you can. Small breakouts can appear in the first few days after extraction and usually settle on their own.
Risks and possible side effects
Hydradermabrasion is a low-risk treatment, but side effects can still happen, especially on sensitive skin. Possible side effects include:
- Redness, tightness, stinging or a warm feeling for a few hours
- Temporary breakouts or small bumps after extraction
- Irritation or a rash from acids or serum ingredients, including allergic reactions
- Small bruises or broken capillaries from strong suction, especially on thin skin
- A cold sore flare in people who carry the herpes simplex virus
- Dark patches after irritation, which are more likely in medium to deep skin tones
Call the clinic if you notice swelling, blistering, oozing, spreading redness or pain that gets worse instead of better.
Hydrating facial vs LDM vs skin boosters: which is right for you?
The right choice depends on whether you need a quick surface refresh or longer-lasting hydration.
- Hydradermabrasion facial: cleans pores and gives an immediate glow that lasts days.
- LDM: a gentle ultrasound treatment with no suction or extraction, used at Hommage Clinic for hydration and to calm skin after lasers or lifting.
- Skin boosters: injections of hyaluronic acid or other regenerative ingredients into the dermis, with effects that typically last months rather than days.
Many people combine them, for example a monthly facial-type treatment with skin boosters a few times a year. Your doctor will explain what each option can realistically achieve for your skin.

Mechanism
How does a HydraFacial work? Cleanse, extract, hydrate
A hydradermabrasion facial combines three jobs in one pass of a handheld tip. A closed loop of suction pulls fluid across the skin and back into the machine, so the same tip can loosen dead cells, draw out oil from pores and leave serum behind. Unlike crystal microdermabrasion , nothing gritty is rubbed on the skin; the fluid does the work.
All of this happens in the stratum corneum, the thin outer layer of dead cells. That is why the effect is visible straight away and also why it is temporary. As the skin renews itself over the next weeks, the polished, plumped surface is replaced with new cells.
Alternatives
HydraFacial alternatives at Hommage Clinic in Gangnam
People usually search for a HydraFacial because they want clean, hydrated, glowing skin with no downtime. Hommage Clinic does not list the branded device, so Dr. Hwang Seonhwa chooses among the hydrating treatments the clinic does use, based on what your skin needs most.
LDM
Gentle dual-frequency ultrasound with no suction or extraction. Often used for hydration and to calm skin after lasers or lifting.
Coreg Cell-Fit
A non-thermal QMR treatment the clinic uses for dry, dull or sensitive skin.
If your main concern is blackheads and congested pores rather than dryness, an extraction facial or deep-cleansing pore therapy may be a closer match to the extraction step of a hydradermabrasion facial.

Compare
HydraFacial vs microdermabrasion vs chemical peel
These three are often confused because all of them exfoliate. The difference is how they do it and how deep they go. Hydradermabrasion uses fluid and suction and is the gentlest. Microdermabrasion and the diamond peel polish the surface with crystals or an abrasive tip. A medical chemical peel uses acids that can reach deeper, so it can do more for acne, pigment or texture but may cause peeling and needs more sun care.
| Compare | Hydradermabrasion | Microdermabrasion | Chemical peel |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Fluid, suction and serums | Crystals or a diamond tip polish the surface | Acid solution loosens cells; depth depends on the peel |
| Extraction | Yes, by suction | No | No (may be combined) |
| Downtime | None; pinkness for hours | Little; mild redness | None to several days of peeling |
| Best for | Dull, dehydrated or mildly congested skin | Rough texture on non-sensitive skin | Acne, pigment or texture under medical supervision |

Your skin
Hydrating facials for oily, dry, sensitive and mature skin
Hydradermabrasion is popular because it suits many skin types, but the settings and serums should change with your skin. Suction strength, the acid step and the serum can all be adjusted, and some steps are better skipped on reactive skin.
- Oily or congested skin: the extraction step helps most. Avoid over-cleansing at home afterward, which can make skin oilier. See also sebum control therapy .
- Dry or dehydrated skin: the hydration step and barrier care matter most; strong acids are reduced. For longer-lasting change, skin boosters work deeper.
- Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin: lower suction, no or very mild acids, and a soothing finish. Many people do better with LDM or cryo than with suction.
- Mature skin: the glow is real but short-lived, and fine lines and laxity need other treatments such as HIFU lifting or boosters.
- Medium to deep skin tones: lower-irritation settings help reduce the risk of dark patches after inflammation.
Seoul's seasons and your skin
Seoul's dry, cold winters and indoor heating often leave skin tight and flaky, which is when hydrating facials are most requested. Humid summers bring more oil and congestion, so the extraction step and daily sunscreen become more important. Your plan can change with the season.
Timing
How often should you get a HydraFacial? A maintenance schedule
Because a hydrating facial only affects the outer layer, its effect follows the skin's own renewal cycle. The glow peaks in the first day or two, fades over about a week, and is gone by the time the surface has renewed. That is why clinics suggest repeating it every two to four weeks for people who want to keep the effect, and why one session before an event is best done a day or two ahead.

Aftercare
HydraFacial aftercare: do's and don'ts
Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs products more easily and is more sensitive to the sun for a short time. A few simple rules for the first two days keep it comfortable and help the glow last.
Do
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply outdoors
- Use a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer
- Drink water and keep indoor air humid in winter
- Keep makeup light until the next morning
- Tell the clinic if redness or stinging gets worse
Don't
- Use retinoids or exfoliating acids for about two days
- Use a sauna, steam room or do intense workouts that day
- Scrub, pick or squeeze small bumps
- Book a peel or laser in the same week unless planned
- Sunbathe or tan straight after treatment
Evidence
Does a HydraFacial work? What the research says
Hydradermabrasion is very popular, but it has been studied much less than lasers, peels or injectables. The best-known study is small, short and was supported by the device maker. People clearly notice that skin looks cleaner and more hydrated straight afterward; what is less clear is whether repeated sessions change the skin in a lasting way.

Hydrating facial in Seoul for international patients
A hydrating facial is one of the easiest treatments to fit into a short trip to Seoul, because there is no downtime and no follow-up visit is needed. Hommage Women's Clinic is in Gangnam, a short walk from Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 and Shinbundang Line), and walk-ins are welcome.
Plan your visit
- Message your dates and skin concerns by WhatsApp, KakaoTalk or the contact form, and ask for language support if needed.
- One visit is enough for a refresh; if you are in Seoul for longer, a second session after 2–4 weeks can be planned.
- Long flights dry the skin, so a hydrating facial a day or two after arrival, or a day before an event, often works well.
- Bring your passport for registration and a list of your skincare products and medicines, including any recent isotretinoin.
- Avoid sunburn and new strong products in the days before treatment.
Combining with other treatments
If you are also planning lasers or lifting, Dr. Hwang times the hydrating treatment around them; LDM, for example, is often used to calm skin after a laser. Ask about the order at your assessment.

Choosing well
How to choose a HydraFacial or hydrating facial clinic in Seoul
Many clinics and spas in Gangnam offer “aqua peel” or HydraFacial-style treatments. Use these questions at any clinic, including ours:
- Is it the branded device or a generic one? Both can work; you should simply be told which you are getting.
- Which acids and serums are used? Important if you are sensitive or allergic to salicylic acid or aspirin.
- Is my skin checked first? Acne, rosacea or eczema should be treated, not just facialed.
- Are tips single-use and is hygiene clear? Ask how handpieces are cleaned between clients.
- Do they explain how long it lasts? Be wary of claims of permanent results from one facial.
- Do I get a written price first? Including any add-ons such as LED or masks.
What affects hydrating facial cost in Seoul?
Cost depends on the device and serums used, add-ons such as LED, cooling or masks, whether extraction is included, and whether you book a single session or a course. At Hommage Clinic, the cost of LDM, cryo or Coreg Cell-Fit depends on the treatment chosen and the number of sessions. Facials are not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance, and you receive a written quote before treatment.

HydraFacial: frequently asked questions
Does Hommage Clinic offer HydraFacial?
Hommage Clinic does not list the branded HydraFacial device. For similar goals, such as clean, hydrated and glowing skin, Dr. Hwang Seonhwa can recommend treatments the clinic does use, including LDM, cryo soothing and Coreg Cell-Fit. The choice is made after a skin assessment so the treatment fits your skin type and any other procedures you are planning.
Does a HydraFacial hurt?
A HydraFacial is usually comfortable and needs no anesthesia. Most people feel cool suction and light tingling when the acid solution is applied. Extraction around the nose and chin can feel like a brief pinch. Tell the person treating you if anything stings, because suction strength and solutions can be adjusted for sensitive skin.
How long does a HydraFacial last?
The visible glow from a HydraFacial typically lasts several days to about a week. Pores may stay clearer for a little longer, depending on how oily your skin is. Because the outer skin layer renews itself about once a month, people who want to maintain the effect usually repeat a hydrating facial every two to four weeks.
Can I wear makeup after a HydraFacial?
You can usually wear makeup after a hydrating facial, but it is kinder to your skin to keep it light until the next morning. Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs products more easily and may sting. Sunscreen is the most important step afterward, and it is sensible to pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for about two days.
Is a HydraFacial good for acne or rosacea?
A hydrating facial can help with blackheads and mild congestion, but it is not a treatment for inflamed acne or rosacea. Suction and acids can irritate active breakouts or a rosacea flare. These conditions need a diagnosis and medical treatment first, such as acne laser treatment or prescription care, before facials are added for maintenance.
Can foreigners get a hydrating facial in Seoul?
Yes. Visitors and foreign residents can book a skin assessment and hydrating treatment at Hommage Clinic in Gangnam. Walk-ins are welcome, or book ahead for a set time; bring your passport for registration. Please contact us before your visit to arrange language support, and let us know your travel dates so treatments can be timed around flights.
What is the difference between a HydraFacial and an aqua peel?
HydraFacial is a brand name. “Aqua peel” and hydradermabrasion are generic names for similar machine-based facials that use fluid and suction to cleanse, extract and hydrate. Devices, tips and serums differ between brands, so ask any clinic which system and solutions they use.
Is a HydraFacial better than microdermabrasion?
Neither is better for everyone. Hydradermabrasion uses fluid and suction and adds extraction and serums, so it is gentler and suits congested or dehydrated skin. Microdermabrasion polishes the surface with crystals or a diamond tip and may suit rougher, non-sensitive skin. Both work only on the outer layer.
Is there scientific evidence that HydraFacial works?
Evidence is limited. The best-known study involved 10 women given six sessions, with results checked two weeks later, and it was supported by the device maker. Skin clearly looks cleaner and more hydrated straight afterward, but long-term benefits have not been shown in large independent trials.
Can I get a HydraFacial while pregnant?
Gentle cleansing and hydration are generally considered fine in pregnancy, but some facial serums and peel solutions contain salicylic acid or other actives you may prefer to avoid. Tell the clinic you are pregnant so the products can be adjusted, and ask your obstetrician if unsure. Pregnancy-related skin changes are covered on our skin care for hormonal changes page.
How soon before an event should I get a hydrating facial?
One or two days before is usually ideal: skin has time to settle from any pinkness and the glow is still at its peak. Avoid trying a new treatment or product for the first time right before an important day, in case your skin reacts.
Can a hydrating facial be combined with laser or Botox?
Often yes, but timing matters. Gentle soothing treatments such as LDM are commonly used after lasers or lifting. Suction-based facials are usually spaced away from fresh lasers, peels or injections to avoid irritation. Dr. Hwang plans the order at your assessment.
Is a HydraFacial covered by insurance in Korea?
No. Facials and other cosmetic skin treatments are not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance, and travel insurance rarely covers them. You receive a written quote before treatment.
