Chin Filler for V-Line Shaping in Seoul

Chin filler is an injection of firm hyaluronic acid filler into the chin to add projection or length, which balances the nose and lips in profile and gives the lower face a more tapered V-line; results usually last about 12–18 months. At Hommage Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, Dr. Kim Hyunbin assesses your profile and jaw shape before planning how much definition looks natural on you.

Quick answer

Chin filler is a non-surgical injection of firm hyaluronic acid filler placed deep on the chin bone to add projection or length, so the nose, lips and jaw look better balanced and the lower face looks more tapered (V-line). At Hommage Women's Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, it is planned and performed by Dr. Kim Hyunbin. Injecting takes about 10–20 minutes, the shape settles in about 2 weeks, results usually last 12–18 months, and hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

Key takeaways

  • Chin filler changes the chin, not the width of the jaw. A full V-line often combines it with jawline Botox or other treatments.
  • In a randomized trial, about 8 in 10 treated adults had a visible improvement at 12 weeks, and most still did at 48 weeks.
  • The chin has a network of small arteries, so deep placement, slow injection and hyaluronidase on hand matter for safety.
  • Visitors can be treated early in a trip and checked before flying home; avoid dental work for about 2 weeks.

Chin filler may suit you if you have

  • A short or slightly receding chin that makes the profile look unbalanced
  • A rounded lower face you would like to look more tapered from the front
  • A chin that looks flat or dimpled when you close your lips
  • A wish to preview a change before considering a surgical chin implant

Wait or choose another option if you

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a significant jaw bite problem (an orthodontic or surgical opinion may be needed)
  • Have an infection, inflamed acne or a dental abscess near the chin
  • Have a chin implant or permanent filler (tell your doctor first)

What is chin filler?

Chin filler is a firm, cohesive hyaluronic acid dermal filler placed deep on the chin bone to change the shape of the chin. It can add forward projection, a little extra length, or a softer point, depending on where it is placed.

The chin has a strong effect on facial balance. A small or receding chin can make the nose look larger and the lower face look rounder. Adding structure to the chin often makes the whole lower face look more tapered, which is why chin filler is a common part of non-surgical V-line contouring in Korea.

Can chin filler create a V-line?

Chin filler can contribute to a V-line, but it is rarely the whole answer. A V-line depends on three things: the chin shape, the width of the jaw, and how firm the skin along the jawline is.

  • Chin shape: filler adds projection and a gentle point.
  • Jaw width: a wide lower face from strong chewing muscles is slimmed with jawline Botox .
  • Soft tissue and fat: fullness under the chin may respond to double chin reduction , and loose jawline skin to lifting such as a V-line thread lift .

Most people get a more natural result from modest changes in two or three of these areas than from a large amount of filler in the chin alone.

Does chin filler hurt? What happens during treatment

Chin filler is usually only mildly uncomfortable. Numbing cream is applied first and most fillers contain lidocaine, so pressure is the main sensation. Injecting takes about 10–20 minutes.

  1. Your doctor looks at your face from the front and side, checks your bite and how the chin moves when you smile and speak.
  2. The plan is agreed with you using a mirror, including how much change looks natural.
  3. Numbing cream is applied, and the skin is disinfected.
  4. Filler is placed deep on the bone with a needle or cannula, then gently shaped. The profile is checked before you leave.

How long does chin filler last?

Chin filler usually lasts about 12–18 months. The chin moves relatively little and firm fillers are used, so results often last longer than in the lips or cheeks. You see the change immediately, and the final shape settles after about 2 weeks.

  • Avoid pressing or massaging the chin for about 2 weeks, and do not sleep face-down for the first few nights.
  • Avoid saunas, strenuous exercise and alcohol for 2–3 days.
  • Delay dental treatment for about 2 weeks if you can, as mouth stretching and dental injections can affect the area.
  • Gentle makeup is usually fine the next day.

Risks and possible side effects of chin filler

Chin filler is generally well tolerated, but you should know the possible side effects before treatment.

  • Common: swelling, tenderness, small bruises and a firm feeling for a few days.
  • Less common: asymmetry, a chin that looks too long or wide, lumps, or filler shifting over time if large volumes are used.
  • Infection: uncommon; tell your doctor about any dental infection first.
  • Vascular occlusion (rare but serious): arteries near the chin and lower lip can be affected if filler enters or compresses a vessel, causing pain and skin color change.

Hyaluronic acid chin filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Contact the clinic immediately if you notice severe or increasing pain, white, dusky or mottled skin on the chin or lip, or any change in vision.

Chin filler vs chin implant surgery

Chin filler is temporary, reversible and needs no incision, so it suits mild to moderate changes or people who want to try a new shape first. A surgical chin implant or bone surgery (genioplasty) is permanent and can make larger changes, but involves an operation and longer recovery. Hommage Clinic does not perform chin surgery; if the change you want is beyond what filler can safely give, you will be told so.

Chin filler at Hommage Clinic

Hommage Clinic is a women's health and skin clinic in Gangnam, a short walk from Sinnonhyeon Station. Walk-ins are welcome, or book ahead for a set time. A doctor assesses your profile and lower-face width, performs the injection and keeps hyaluronidase in the clinic.

Cost depends on the amount of filler, the product, and whether other contouring treatments are combined. Chin filler is cosmetic and not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance; you receive a written quote before treatment. You can explore other contouring options in ourskin and aesthetics guide.

How it works

How chin filler changes your profile

Doctors often judge the lower face in profile by imagining a line from the tip of the nose to the front of the chin. When the chin sits well behind that line, the nose can look larger, the lips can look more pushed forward and the jaw can look short and round from the front. Chin filler works by placing a firm, cohesive hyaluronic acid gel deep on the chin bone, where it acts like a small, temporary scaffold. Projecting the chin forward, or lengthening it slightly downward, moves the front of the chin closer to that balance line.

The goal is balance rather than a dramatic point. In Korea, many people ask for a slim, softly tapered chin; in other cultures a broader, squarer chin may look more natural. Dr. Kim Hyunbin plans the shape from the front and the side, so the chin suits your nose, lips and jaw instead of standing out on its own.

V-line shaping

V-line face map: what each treatment changes

A V-line is the result of several features working together, so the right plan depends on which one is actually making your lower face look wide or round. Chin filler only changes the chin. If the width comes from strong chewing muscles, from fullness under the chin or from loose skin along the jaw, other treatments do that part better. The map below shows the four areas Dr. Kim checks at a V-line consultation and the treatment usually matched to each.

Recovery

Chin filler recovery and results timeline

Chin filler has little true downtime, but the chin does go through a short settling phase. It often looks slightly fuller and feels firm or tender for the first few days, especially when you smile widely or chew. Most visible swelling has gone within a week, and the final shape is judged at about two weeks, which is when a small refinement can be made if needed. The result then lasts for roughly a year to a year and a half before it gradually fades.

Aftercare

Chin filler aftercare: do's and don'ts

Most of what you do after chin filler is about keeping the gel where it was placed while it integrates with the tissue, and keeping the area clean. These simple rules cover the first two weeks, which is when the shape is still settling.

Do

  • Use a wrapped cold pack gently for short periods on day 1 if swollen
  • Sleep on your back for the first few nights
  • Keep the skin clean; light makeup the next day is usually fine
  • Tell your dentist you have chin filler and wait about 2 weeks for routine work
  • Come back or send photos at about 2 weeks for review

Don't

  • Press, massage or rest your chin on your hand for about 2 weeks
  • Use saunas, hot baths or hard exercise for 2–3 days
  • Drink alcohol for 2–3 days
  • Book facial massage or radiofrequency treatments on the chin before your review
  • Ignore severe pain or white, dusky or mottled skin: call the clinic at once

Safety

Is chin filler safe? Anatomy and warning signs

The chin is generally considered one of the lower-risk areas for filler, but it is not risk-free. Blood reaches the chin through a connected network of small arteries: the mental artery, which leaves the jaw bone through a small opening below the lower teeth, the submental artery from underneath, and branches that link with the lower-lip artery. Because these vessels connect, filler that enters or presses on one of them can affect skin over a wider area.

Careful technique lowers that risk: placing firm filler deep on the bone in the midline, injecting slowly in small amounts, using a cannula where suitable, and avoiding the area around the mental foramen. Hyaluronidase, the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid, is kept in the clinic so a problem can be treated at once.

Comparing options

Chin filler vs chin implant vs genioplasty

All three can bring a short chin forward. They differ in how large a change they can make, how permanent it is and how much recovery they need. Filler is often a sensible first step for mild to moderate retrusion, or as a trial of a new shape. Hommage Clinic offers filler only; if your goal is beyond what filler can safely achieve, Dr. Kim will tell you and suggest seeing a surgeon.

Evidence

Does chin filler work? What the research says

Chin augmentation with hyaluronic acid filler has been tested in several randomized, evaluator-blinded trials that compared treated adults with an untreated control group. These trials led regulators such as the US FDA to approve specific fillers for the chin in 2020 and 2021. The studies were funded by manufacturers, followed people for about one year and used particular products, so results with other products or techniques may differ.

Honest limits. Tenderness and firmness were very common in the first days (reported by about three-quarters of participants in one trial), and most side effects were mild and short-lived. Serious problems were rare in these trials, but trials are too small to measure rare events such as vascular occlusion accurately. Results depend on the product, the amount and the injector, and no trial can predict how your own chin will look.

Chin filler in Seoul for international patients

Chin filler fits easily into a short trip because there is little downtime. The main thing to plan is time for the swelling to settle and, ideally, a check before you fly. Hommage Clinic is in Gangnam, a short walk from Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 and Shinbundang Line).

Before you book

  • Message us by WhatsApp, KakaoTalk or the contact form with your dates and a front and side photo if you would like an initial opinion.
  • Book treatment early in your trip, ideally 10–14 days before your flight, so you can be reviewed at about 2 weeks.
  • Bring your passport, a list of medicines and allergies, and the product name of any previous filler or implant.
  • Avoid planning dental treatment for the same trip.

After you fly home

Flying a few days after chin filler is generally fine. Keep the aftercare sheet, and message the clinic with photos if anything worries you. For severe pain, skin color change or vision change, see a local doctor or emergency service immediately and mention that you have hyaluronic acid filler.

Choosing well

How to choose a chin filler clinic in Seoul

Gangnam has many clinics offering V-line treatments, and prices advertised online rarely tell you how safe or natural the result will be. Use these questions at any consultation, including ours:

  • Does a doctor inject? The doctor who assesses your profile should perform the injection.
  • Which product, and is it hyaluronic acid? Ask for the brand name and avoid permanent fillers in the chin.
  • Is hyaluronidase kept on site? It should be available immediately, with a plan for vascular events.
  • Do they look at the whole lower face? A good plan considers jaw width, under-chin fullness and skin, not just volume.
  • Is there a review at about 2 weeks? Refinement should be planned, not pushed on the day.

What affects chin filler cost in Seoul?

The cost mainly depends on how much filler your chin needs, which product is used, and whether other V-line treatments such as jawline Botox or nose filler are done at the same visit. A larger correction may be split over two sessions. Chin filler is cosmetic and not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance; you receive a written quote before treatment.

Chin filler: frequently asked questions

  • Does chin filler hurt?

Chin filler is usually only mildly uncomfortable. Numbing cream is applied first and most fillers contain lidocaine, so pressure is the main sensation. The chin may feel tender or firm for a few days afterward, especially when you smile widely or chew.

  • How long does chin filler last?

Chin filler usually lasts about 12–18 months. Firm hyaluronic acid fillers placed deep on the bone in a low-movement area tend to last longer than fillers in the lips or cheeks. Duration varies with the product, the amount and your metabolism.

  • Can chin filler make my face look slimmer?

Chin filler can make the lower face look more tapered by adding a gentle point and projection. It does not reduce jaw width. If your face looks wide because of strong chewing muscles, jawline Botox is often combined with chin filler for a V-line effect.

  • How much filler does a chin need?

It depends on how much projection or length you want and how much support your chin bone already gives. Small changes need little filler, while larger corrections may be done in two sessions to keep the shape natural. Your doctor will explain the expected amount at the consultation.

  • Can I go to the dentist after chin filler?

It is sensible to wait about 2 weeks before routine dental treatment, because stretching the mouth and dental anesthetic injections can affect the settling filler and raise the risk of infection. Tell your dentist you have had chin filler, and tell your doctor about any upcoming dental work.

  • Can foreigners get chin filler in Seoul?

Yes. Visitors and foreign residents can have chin filler at Hommage Clinic; bring your passport or residence card. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours, or you can book ahead; contact us before your visit to arrange language support. Early-trip treatment allows a review before you fly home.

  • Is chin filler safe?

Chin filler is generally well tolerated, and in randomized trials most side effects were mild tenderness, firmness or swelling that settled within days to weeks. The rare but serious risk is a blocked blood vessel, so it should be done by a doctor who places filler deep on the bone, injects slowly and keeps hyaluronidase on hand. Contact the clinic at once if you notice severe pain or skin color change.

  • Can chin filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid chin filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, either urgently if a vessel problem is suspected or later if you are unhappy with the shape. Permanent fillers cannot be dissolved this way, which is one reason Hommage Clinic uses hyaluronic acid only.

  • Chin filler or chin implant: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Filler suits mild to moderate changes, needs no incision and is reversible, but it is temporary. An implant or genioplasty can make a larger, permanent change but is surgery with a longer recovery. Hommage Clinic does not perform chin surgery and will tell you if your goal is beyond what filler can safely achieve.

  • When will I see chin filler results?

You see the change immediately, although the chin may look slightly fuller for the first few days because of swelling. The final shape is clearer at about 2 weeks, which is when your result is reviewed and a small refinement can be added if needed.

  • Can men have chin filler?

Yes. Chin filler is used in men and women; the plan simply differs. Men often want a stronger, wider chin that supports a square jaw, while many women in Korea ask for a slimmer, softly pointed chin. Dr. Kim Hyunbin plans the shape around your own features.

  • Can I combine chin filler with jawline Botox?

Yes, and it is a common V-line combination. Chin filler adds projection and a soft point, while jawline Botox slims a wide jaw caused by strong chewing muscles over several weeks. Both can usually be done at the same visit if suitable.

  • What should I avoid before chin filler?

If your doctor agrees, avoid alcohol and, where it is safe to stop, supplements such as fish oil or high-dose vitamin E for a few days to reduce bruising. Do not stop prescribed blood thinners without medical advice. Reschedule if you have a cold sore, inflamed acne or a dental infection near the chin.
