Labia Majora Augmentation in Seoul: Restoring Outer-Lip Volume
Labia majora augmentation adds volume to the outer lips of the vulva, usually with hyaluronic acid filler or your own fat, to soften thinning, sagging or wrinkling caused by aging, weight loss or childbirth. At Hommage Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, female OB/GYN specialist Dr. Park Yuna examines you, explains whether augmentation suits you, and performs the treatment herself.
Quick answer
Labia majora augmentation restores volume to the outer lips with hyaluronic acid (HA) filler or your own fat. At Hommage Women's Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, female OB/GYN specialist Dr. Park Yuna performs filler treatment in about 20–40 minutes under numbing cream and local anesthetic, using a blunt cannula. Swelling settles over a few days, sex and exercise wait about 1–2 weeks, and HA filler often lasts around 12–18 months. Evidence is limited to small studies, so expectations should be realistic.
Key takeaways
- Outer-lip thinning with age, menopause, weight loss or childbirth is normal; treatment is a personal choice.
- HA filler is adjustable and can be dissolved; fat transfer can last longer but cannot be reversed.
- A blunt cannula and gradual building of volume lower the risk of bruising and of filler entering a blood vessel.
- If the main issue is long inner labia rather than lost volume, labiaplasty may suit better.
- Filler needs little downtime; international patients can usually plan a short stay with an early check.

Augmentation may suit you if you
- Have outer lips that look thinner, deflated or wrinkled after aging, menopause or weight loss
- Notice the inner labia are more exposed because the outer lips have lost volume
- Feel more friction or discomfort in tight clothing because there is less padding
- Want a non-surgical option that can be adjusted or, for filler, dissolved
Wait or choose another option if you
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have an active infection, a herpes outbreak or a skin condition in the area
- Have an autoimmune condition or a history of reactions to fillers, unless your doctor agrees
- Mainly have excess skin rather than volume loss, which reduction surgery may suit better
What is labia majora augmentation?
The labia majora are the outer lips of the vulva, made of skin over a layer of fatty tissue. Over time, and especially after menopause, weight loss or childbirth, that fat can thin and the skin can lose elasticity, so the outer lips look flatter, looser or wrinkled.
Labia majora augmentation restores some of that volume. It is a non-surgical or minimally invasive treatment, different from labiaplasty , which reduces the inner lips. Changes in this area are a normal part of aging, so treatment is a personal choice, not a medical necessity. It is one of several cosmetic gynecology treatments offered at the clinic.
Filler or fat transfer: which is right for you?
There are two main ways to add volume, and the right one depends on how much volume you need and how long you want it to last.
- Hyaluronic acid (HA) filler: a gel similar to a substance found naturally in the skin is injected through a fine cannula. Results are immediate and adjustable, and HA can be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed. Because the body breaks it down gradually, top-ups are needed.
- Fat transfer (fat grafting): fat is taken by gentle liposuction from another area, such as the abdomen or thighs, purified and injected. It feels natural and some of it can last for years, but not all transferred fat survives, it involves two treatment sites and it cannot be dissolved.
Most women considering augmentation for the first time start with HA filler. Dr. Park discusses which method suits your anatomy and goals at your consultation.
What happens during treatment?
Filler treatment usually takes 20–40 minutes. A numbing cream is applied first, and local anesthetic is used at the entry points. Dr. Park then places the filler in small amounts through a blunt cannula, which reduces the risk of bruising and of entering a blood vessel, and checks symmetry as she goes.
You can usually walk out and return to desk work the same day. If fat transfer is chosen, the procedure takes longer, as fat is collected and prepared before injection, and the area it was taken from will also be sore for a few days.
How long does labia majora filler last?
HA filler in the labia majora often lasts around 12–18 months, though this varies with the product, the amount used and your metabolism. Results look fuller straight away, then settle over 2–4 weeks as swelling resolves, when a small top-up can be added if needed.
Aftercare is simple but important:
- Keep the area clean and dry; wear loose cotton underwear.
- Avoid sex, cycling, tight clothing, saunas and swimming for about 1–2 weeks, or as advised.
- Do not massage the area unless the doctor tells you to.
- Use cold packs wrapped in cloth for swelling in the first 48 hours.
Risks and possible side effects
Most side effects are mild and short-lived, but you should know them before deciding. Common effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness and small lumps that usually settle within a few weeks. Less common risks include:
- Infection, which is more of a concern in this area and needs prompt treatment
- Asymmetry or uneven contour, which can usually be adjusted
- Filler moving from where it was placed, or lumps that need dissolving
- Rarely, filler entering or pressing on a blood vessel, causing skin damage; signs include severe pain, pale or dusky skin, or blistering
- For fat transfer: partial loss of volume as some fat is reabsorbed, firm lumps (oil cysts) and soreness at the donor site
Contact the clinic straight away if you have severe or increasing pain, color change in the skin, fever, or redness and warmth that spreads.
Augmentation with other treatments
If the inner lips extend noticeably, outer-lip volume alone may not change the overall look, and some women combine augmentation with labiaplasty . When vaginal dryness or looseness is also a concern, vaginal rejuvenation options such as laser or regenerative treatments can be discussed in the same visit. For darker skin on the outer lips, intimate area lightening is a separate option.
Labia majora augmentation at Hommage Clinic
Hommage Clinic is a women's health and skin clinic in Gangnam, a short walk from Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 / Shinbundang Line). Dr. Park Yuna, a female OB/GYN specialist, examines you, plans the volume with you and performs the injections herself. She uses a blunt cannula, the same technique used for facial fillers, to lower the risk of bruising and of filler entering a blood vessel. Read more about every option in our cosmetic gynecology guide .
Labia majora augmentation is cosmetic and is not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance. Cost depends mainly on the method and the amount of filler needed, and you receive a written quote before treatment.
How it works
How labia majora filler works: restoring the fat pad under the skin
The outer lips are mostly a cushion of fat covered by skin. When that fat pad thins with age, falling estrogen after menopause, weight loss or childbirth, the skin above it has less support, so it can look flatter, looser or finely wrinkled. Labia majora augmentation works by replacing some of that lost volume underneath the skin rather than by tightening the skin itself.
With hyaluronic acid filler, a soft gel is placed in small threads through a blunt-tipped cannula that enters through one or two tiny points. A cannula pushes vessels aside rather than piercing them, which is why it is widely preferred for this area. Volume is built gradually and checked for symmetry, because it is easier to add a little at the review visit than to remove an excess. In the systematic review of published studies, hyaluronic acid sessions used about 2–6 mL in total.
Comparison
Labia majora filler vs fat transfer: side by side
Both methods add volume to the outer lips, and both are described in the published literature as generally safe with mostly mild, temporary side effects. They differ in how long they last, whether they can be undone and how much is involved on the day. In the fat transfer studies reviewed, fat was injected in several layers to help it survive, part of it was reabsorbed in the first months, and touch-ups were generally done after 4–6 months. Hyaluronic acid filler, by contrast, is finished in one short visit and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with it.
| Compare | Hyaluronic acid filler | Fat transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | Mild to moderate volume loss; first-time treatment | Larger volume needs, or women who want a longer-lasting option and have fat to spare |
| On the day | Numbing cream and local; about 20–40 minutes | Gentle liposuction, fat preparation, then injection; longer, sedation can be discussed |
| Results | Immediate; settle over 2–4 weeks | Some fat is reabsorbed in the first months; touch-ups were generally done at 4–6 months in studies |
| Reversible? | Yes, with hyaluronidase | No |
| Specific risks | Lumps, migration, rare vascular occlusion | Uneven take, firm lumps (oil cysts), donor-site soreness |
Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate for labia majora augmentation?
Women who ask about outer-lip filler are most often in their forties to sixties, around or after menopause, or have lost a lot of weight. The most common concerns are that the outer lips look deflated or wrinkled, that the inner labia are now more visible, or that there is less natural padding when sitting, cycling or wearing fitted clothes. The small studies of hyaluronic acid treatment have mostly been in women with this kind of age-related volume loss.
The exam matters because similar-looking changes can have different causes. If the skin is thin, dry and sore, genitourinary syndrome of menopause may be part of the picture, and menopause treatment or care for vaginal dryness may help more than filler. If the main issue is long inner labia, volume alone will not hide them.
Filler or fat may help
- Flatter, deflated outer lips
- Fine wrinkling over a thinner fat pad
- Less cushioning when sitting or cycling
Another option may fit
- Long inner labia: labiaplasty
- Dryness, soreness after menopause: medical treatment
- Darker skin only: lightening
- Excess loose skin: reduction, not volume

Results
Labia majora filler results and recovery timeline
Hyaluronic acid filler gives an immediate change, but the first look is not the final one. Some of the early fullness is swelling and the gel itself drawing in water, so the outer lips usually look slightly over-full for a few days. By two to four weeks the swelling has gone and the true result is visible, which is why the review visit is planned then. From there, the body slowly breaks the filler down, and many women notice a gradual return towards their starting point at around 12–18 months. In the longest hyaluronic acid study in the systematic review, women were followed for 12 months, and repeat sessions were spaced more than 4 months apart.

Aftercare
Labia majora filler aftercare and warning signs
Aftercare after outer-lip filler is simpler than after surgery, but the area is warm, moist and close to the vaginal and anal openings, so hygiene matters more than after facial filler. The most important safety point is knowing which symptoms are expected and which need a same-day call to the clinic.
Expected and normal
- Swelling and tenderness for a few days
- Small bruises at the entry points
- Feeling the filler as slightly firm at first
- Mild asymmetry while swelling settles
- Keep the area clean and dry; loose cotton underwear
Call the clinic the same day
- Severe or rapidly increasing pain
- Pale, blotchy, dusky or blue-grey skin
- Blisters or skin breakdown
- Fever, spreading redness or warmth
- A hard, hot or growing lump
Evidence
Does labia majora augmentation work? What the research says
The evidence for labia majora augmentation is small and early. A 2017 systematic review found only 9 studies with 226 patients in total, covering fat grafting, hyaluronic acid and other methods. Only two were prospective, none had a control group, and none was randomized. The reported outcomes are encouraging: side effects were mostly mild and temporary and no life-threatening complications were described, but the authors concluded that randomized trials are still needed. Later small studies of hyaluronic acid products report similar short-term findings. We share these figures so you can weigh the treatment honestly.

Is labia majora filler safe? How risks are kept low
Most side effects of outer-lip filler are mild: swelling, bruising, tenderness and small lumps that settle on their own or can be dissolved. The rare but serious risk with any hyaluronic acid filler is that gel enters or presses on a blood vessel and reduces blood flow to the skin. The vulva has a rich blood supply, so technique matters. These are the habits Dr. Park uses with every treatment:
- Blunt cannula, not a sharp needle Pushes vessels aside rather than piercing them, and means fewer entry points.
- Small amounts, built gradually Less pressure on tissue, and easier to keep both sides even.
- Reversible hyaluronic acid only Hyaluronidase is kept on hand to dissolve filler if needed.
- Strict skin preparation The area is cleaned thoroughly to lower infection risk.
- No treatment with active infection Thrush, herpes or skin irritation are treated first.
- Clear warning signs in writing You know which symptoms need a same-day call.

How long to stay
- Filler: plan at least 3–4 days, so swelling can be checked before you fly. If you can return or stay 2–4 weeks, the review and any top-up can be done in person.
- Fat transfer: plan about a week, because there are two treatment sites and more swelling.
Before you book
- Message us by WhatsApp, KakaoTalk or the contact form with your questions and dates, and ask for language support if you need it.
- Choose dates away from your expected period.
- Bring your passport, a list of medicines and allergies, and the name and amount of any filler you have had before.
After you fly home, keep the warning-sign list with you and send photos to the clinic if anything worries you. For severe pain or skin color change, seek urgent local care.
Choosing well
How to choose a clinic for labia majora augmentation in Seoul
Outer-lip filler is offered by many clinics, but intimate injections need a doctor who knows the anatomy of the vulva and can recognize conditions that filler will not fix. Ask these questions at any consultation, including ours:
What affects labia majora augmentation cost in Seoul?
The price depends mainly on the method (filler or fat transfer), the amount of filler needed to restore both sides, the product chosen, whether a top-up is needed at review, and whether it is combined with treatments such as labiaplasty or intimate area lightening . Fat transfer involves a second treatment site and usually sedation. Augmentation is cosmetic and is not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance; you receive a written quote at your consultation before you decide.

Labia majora augmentation: frequently asked questions
Does labia majora filler hurt?
Most women find it quite tolerable. A numbing cream is applied first, local anesthetic is used at the entry points, and many fillers also contain lidocaine. You may feel pressure and brief stinging. The area is usually tender and swollen for a few days afterward, which simple pain relief and cold packs help.
How long does labia majora augmentation last?
Hyaluronic acid filler in the outer lips often lasts around 12–18 months, depending on the product, the amount and your body. Fat transfer can last longer, because some of the transferred fat survives permanently, but part of it is reabsorbed in the first months. Many women choose a maintenance top-up when they notice volume fading.
Can labia majora filler be reversed?
Yes, if hyaluronic acid filler is used. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve it, partly or completely, for example if you are unhappy with the shape or a lump forms. Transferred fat cannot be dissolved, which is one reason many women try filler first.
When can I have sex after labia majora augmentation?
Most women wait about 1–2 weeks, until swelling and tenderness have settled and the entry points have healed. Waiting also reduces the chance of moving the filler before it integrates. Dr. Park will give you a specific timeline based on the method and amount used.
Is labia majora augmentation safe during breastfeeding?
It is generally postponed until you have finished breastfeeding. There is little safety data on cosmetic fillers during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and tissues in the area are still changing after birth, so results would be less predictable. Waiting a few months after you stop breastfeeding gives a clearer picture of your natural volume.
Can foreigners get labia majora augmentation in Seoul?
Yes. International patients and foreign residents can have this treatment at Hommage Clinic in Gangnam. Bring your passport and a list of medicines, and contact us before your visit to arrange language support. Filler needs little downtime, but staying in Seoul for a few days allows an early check. See our cosmetic gynecology guide for travel tips.
How much filler is used in the labia majora?
It depends on how much volume has been lost and the size of the area. In published hyaluronic acid studies, sessions used about 2–6 mL in total for both sides. Dr. Park builds volume gradually and prefers to add a little at the review visit rather than overfill at the first session.
Is labia majora filler the same as vaginal filler?
No. Labia majora filler adds volume to the outer lips on the outside of the vulva. Vaginal fillers are injected inside the vagina for different reasons and have their own risks and limited evidence. They are separate treatments and are assessed separately.
Will labia majora augmentation help vaginal dryness or looseness?
No. Filler in the outer lips changes their volume and contour, not the vaginal walls. Dryness after menopause is usually treated medically, for example with vaginal moisturizers or local estrogen; see vaginal dryness treatment. Looseness after childbirth is addressed with pelvic floor training or other options.
What are the serious risks of labia majora filler?
Serious complications are rare. The most important is filler entering or pressing on a blood vessel, which can damage the skin; warning signs are severe pain, pale or dusky skin, or blistering, and it needs same-day treatment with hyaluronidase. Infection is another concern in this area. A blunt cannula, reversible filler and careful hygiene lower these risks.
Is the evidence for labia majora augmentation strong?
Not yet. A 2017 systematic review found 9 studies with 226 patients, none randomized or controlled. Results were encouraging, with mostly mild and temporary side effects, but the evidence is low quality. Dr. Park explains this honestly so you can decide whether treatment is worth it for you.
Can I have filler if I have had fillers elsewhere before?
Usually yes, but bring the product name, amount and date if you know them. Dr. Park examines the area for lumps or uneven filler first. Older filler of an unknown or permanent type is a reason for caution, because it cannot be dissolved and may complicate further treatment.
Is labia majora augmentation covered by insurance in Korea?
No. It is a cosmetic treatment and is not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance, and travel insurance rarely covers elective procedures. Cost depends on the method and amount of filler, and you receive a written quote at your consultation.
